I just finished watching this video moments ago. Where do I begin? If you have been told that all discernment ministries, bloggers, YouTube’rs are Heresy Hunters, you’ve been lied to.
I think about the formula I learned about many years ago, I think it is noted as the hub of good journalism. I learned it somewhere in my middle-school age English classes.
Ask: Who? What? When? Where? How? and Why?
Then too, I am also reminded of being a Berean, those who questioned, even the Apostle Paul, when he spoke to them. The Bereans took the words of the Apostle Paul to task with the scriptures, which would be the Old Testament in those days.
“Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. Therefore many of them believed, along with a number of prominent Greek women and men.”
But wait! There’s more! There’s a reaction worth mentioning, talk about jealousy (which Kolenda mentions heresy hunters are jealous of charismatics):
“But when the Jews of Thessalonica found out that the word of God had been proclaimed by Paul in Berea also, they came there as well, agitating and stirring up the crowds. Then immediately the brethren sent Paul out to go as far as the sea; and Silas and Timothy remained there.”
Examine the Scriptures daily to see
whether these things are so.
You can ask the very same questions: Who? What? When? Where? How? and Why? as you search the Word of God, in a good translation, and obtain answers which align with the Word. It might just surprise you. It might take some time studying or might not.
A statement by Kolenda:
“This NAR thing is basically a conspiracy theory. ”
“C. Peter Wagner (1930-2016) invented the term “New Apostolic Reformation” and then basically pronounced himself God’s appointed leader of it:
“I needed a name … For a couple of years I experimented with ‘Post denominationalism’. The name I have settled on for the movement is the New Apostolic Reformation.” (Source: C. Peter Wagner, The New Apostolic Churches, Ventura CA; Regal, 1998, p. 18.)”
A statement by Kolenda:
“You’ll probably notice that this NAR narrative is really kept alive through social media ... ”

Wait! What? Didn’t we just read a quote by C. Peter Wagner about his claim to naming this movement?
Furthermore, right after that, Bill Johnson calls heresy hunters jealous, while making an odd statement about legitimizing their dysfunctions (12:03) and Todd White says heresy hunters have always hated charismatics because of jealousy (12:24). [Above links are to articles on this website.]
Kolenda tries to make a point against those he calls heresy hunters, when he says:

“...and it’s not difficult to understand why they’re jealous. All of the biggest movements in the world are charismatic. The popular worship music is all charismatic. Most of the large churches in the world are charismatic. There’s energy and excitement and fruit in the charismatic camp. ”
A response:
What about the smaller bands of people in the Word of God. Take Elijah in 1 Kings 18-19. Jezebel had destroyed a number of the prophets of the LORD, while '“Obadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifties in a cave and provided them with bread and water. Elijah laments “I alone am left a prophet of the LORD, but Baal’s prophets are 450 men.”” If you haven’t read this account before, or it’s been some time, please read it. When everything is said and done (and it was awesome) Elijah received word that Jezebel was after him to do to him what he had done to her 450 prophets of Baal. “Elijah went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough; now, O LORD, take my life, for I am not better than my fathers.”” After another amazing account, Elijah laments that “I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.” But the LORD speaks to him and says He will leave “7,000 in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.” A remnant.
We find many times where there is just a remnant of those who believe and are righteous. When the word became difficult to hear, many of the disciples of Jesus left following Him. Only His disciples stayed with Him. Jesus asked them about it and told them there was one among them who did not believe and should betray Him (Judas Iscariot). A bit later, He asked if they too would go away. [John 6] A remnant.

Steve Kozar points out the close association of Kolenda with Kenneth Copeland as well as many statements made by Kolenda which, if people are paying attention to him, they should look these things up and verify them instead of just believing Kolenda. I have had a very difficult time coming to grips with some of my background. It’s not been an easy progression but because I always knew something wasn’t quite right, I have pursued answers. Sometimes, the answers have pursued me. I was exposed to the teachings of Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagin and others when I was younger. Not that I believed them but some people sure did. I belonged to churches whose backgrounds I now question and I search the scriptures about these things. I have found that too often, things are related in a church out of context in order to produce a doctrine they have believed or they came up with. These things are so important to verify!
Please do watch this video, get the auto-generated transcript from YouTube and print it out, highlight the statements and seek the truth. Whether it’s investigating various heresy hunters (some are not good as you may find out, but others are truly discerning matters and bringing false teachings to light) or more importantly, verifying things by the Word of God, check things out for yourself. See the character of God and His reflection in His prophets vs. prophets who tell people what they want to hear. Isaiah 30:8-11; 2 Timothy 4:3-5. See His reflection in the writings of the disciples and others in the New Testament and put yourself on a right course.
